SEMINAR
“CASE LAW IN VIETNAM: THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ISSUES”
On December 3, 2021, the Faculty of Law, University of Economics and Law VNU-HCM successfully organized an Institutional Seminar on “Case Law in Vietnam: Theoretical and Practical Issues”.
The Faculty of Law was honored to have the attendance of speakers and guests who are legal experts with many years of experience in researching and practicing law, including:
- Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Xuan Thao, Director of the Center for Intellectual Property Law and Innovation, Gerald L. Bepko Chair in Law, McKinney School of Law, Indiana University, USA;
- Judge, Dr. Lai Van Trinh, Deputy Chief Justice of the People’s High Court in Da Nang;
- Dr. Doan Thi Phuong Diep, Head of the Department of Inspection and Legislation, University of Economics and Law, VNU-HCM;
- Dr. Le Nguyen Gia Thien, Vice Dean of Faculty of Law, University of Economics and Law, VNU-HCM;
- Nguyen Thi Minh Hue, LL.M, Director of the Cooperation Center for Lawyer Training on International Trade, Judicial Academy, Ministry of Justice;
- Together with judges, former judges, prosecutors, former prosecutors, and lawyers who come from lawyer organizations in Vietnam.
The seminar was honored to welcome such officers from the University of Economics and Law, VNU-HCM:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Rector of the University;
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Vu Nam, Vice Rector University;
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung, Dean of Faculty of Law.
The seminar received more than 40 contributions from the authors, 5 of them were selected for presentation. The presentations included theoretical issues such as equity in case law, notions and meanings of case law in American and French; as well as practical issues such as application of case law by Vietnamese courts and consumers’ right to choose a dispute settlement mechanism.
Through the sharing and discussion of speakers and guests, the seminar provided an in-depth view of both theoretical and practical matters of case law in the current legal context of Vietnam.
Thanks to the consideration and leading of the Leaders of the University, the preparation of the lectures of the Faculty of Law and the companionship, and support of the speakers and guests, the seminar was successful.
